PSM

Portable Snowmelters

Contractors · Parking lots · Municipal sites

Trailer-mounted, quick to deploy and move between sites. Melt snow where it's cleared instead of trucking it away.

SSM

Stationary Snowmelters

Airports · Cities · Large facilities

High-capacity permanent installations for continuous, heavy-volume melting at central snow disposal sites.

SC

SnowClear

Entrances · Walkways · Stairs · Driveways

Hands-off snow removal using efficient far-infrared technology. One unit melts snow and ice for an area over 100 ft² (10 m²), lowering property maintenance costs and slip-and-fall risk.

Portable Snowmelters

Snow where it falls.

Trecan Portable Snowmelters are an economically and environmentally attractive alternative to trucking snow away. They're fuel-efficient and can be towed from site to site, and most are equipped with an Engine Room Enclosure that suppresses noise and adds further durability to key components. Our Remote Communications Package enables diagnostic testing 24/7 anywhere in North America — and every Trecan Snowmelter has a life span of over 25 years.

Stationary Snowmelters

Fixed. In-ground. Always on.

Trecan stationary Snowmelters offer a unique alternative to portable units: fixed, in-ground installations that cost less to operate and maintain. They can be designed to run on natural gas, diesel fuel or fuel oil, and are strategically placed at the top of parking garages and at various points around an airport or parking lot — in sizes and capacities using multiple burners arranged side-by-side.

Trecan 20-SG Snowmelter melting tank and equipment module in a parking structure

20-SG

Top-deck install
20tons / hr
4.5MBTU / hr
50–100cu yd / hr

Commonly used in hospital, university and commercial parking garages and other parking structures with parking on the top deck. In a double-T structure the equipment module sits on the deck below, with a chute from the top deck directing snow into the melting tank; in cast-in-place construction the tank top sits flush with the deck surface.

40tons / hr
9MBTU / hr
100–200cu yd / hr

An excellent choice for airports, universities, parking lots, strip malls and shopping plazas. Uses 9,000 SCFH (255 cubic meters) of gas per hour. Pictured: a unit in the top deck of a cast-in-place parking structure with a customized melting tank top with two hinged tank covers, where the typical tank would have a single hinged cover.

Principles of operation

How a Snowmelter works.

  1. 1

Snow is dumped into a tank filled with water.

  2. 2

Water is drawn through a heated cylinder, creating a warm melting spray.

  3. 3

The warm water spray melts the snow. A combustion air fan agitates the water to speed up melting.

  4. 4

Water spills through the overflow drain and into sewers after passing through a filter that blocks large debris.
